"Why We Do the Things That We Do"

Posted by  Secretary  Mar 15, 2015

In 1998, Tom Brokaw wrote a book entitled the "Greatest Generation". His book includes the story of those that grew up during the Great Depression and later defended our country in World War II. It also include those that rebuilt a post war America.

In the book of Jonah we find the record of a preacher that was told to go and preach to a people that could not " discern between their right hand and left hand". I am afraid that even with all the good traits of this generation we would probably relate more to the people of Nineveh in the story of Jonah than to the generation that Brokaw wrote of. There seems to be very little, if any, discernment in the world today.

As Christians, we should apply discernment to our daily life. For instance, we should know why we believe what we believe, and why we do the things we do. If we would spend more time in God's word and ask the Lord for His guidance, we would have more knowledge of His will. If we would then apply that knowledge to our heart and mind, we could have more discernment to live by.

May the Lord help us to be a more discerning people, and less like the people of Nineveh.

Saved to Serve,
Pastor Darrell Roe
