" To Whom" or " To What"

Everybody wants to go to heaven! No one wants to burn for eternity in the merciless Lake of Fire. A Godless eternity is without a doubt something to fear. So how does a person be assured of their eternal destination? Many people in the world today are unsure of their eternity. I John 5:13 tells us that we "may know that ye have eternal life" . So how do we know?

First of all, we have to understand that our salvation is not based on what we do, but instead in whom we believe. Romans 10:11 says "Whosoever believeth on Him..." and verse 13 goes on to say that " whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" . Salvation is based on the person of Jesus Christ, not on our works or our sacrifices.
The prophet Habakkuk records for us at the end of chapter one how the Chaldeans were very successful in their persecution of God's people. He goes on to say that God's people were gathered as fish are in a net. Because of this seemingly great success, the Chaldeans sacrificed unto their net. Can you imagine sacrificing unto a net? What nonsense. Yet we can catch ourselves doing it often if we are not careful. How? We will worship the product of our success and the intelligence of those that engineered that success.

We must be careful in our worship to make sure that Christ remains the example and that a likeness to Christ is our goal. If we ever start to worship the ability of an individual or the influence of another, we are no better off than the Chaldeans when they sacrificed unto their nets. " Salvation comes by grace through faith...not of works" . We are warned from scripture not to think of ourselves too highly, because pride goes before destruction. Let's determine to keep our eyes on Him, not on what!
