What's In A Name

What's in a Name?

" A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold." " Jeremiah 17:7

How often do you give thought to what people think of you? I am not talking about what they think of your job, your title, your style, or your money. I am talking about " you" as a person. What do others think about your honesty, about your character? Can they depend on you? How do you respond to criticism or to difficult decisions?

The Bible has much to say about how we are to behave ourselves in front of other people. In the
Old and New Testament alike the Lord tells us that we are to " Be holy for He is Holy" (Lev. 20:26 and
I Peter 1:16). I Timothy 4:12 says that we, as Christians, are to be " an example of the believers." But the principle in Proverbs 22:1 is to anyone and everyone.

History tells us there have been men who's church affiliation may have been sketchy, but because they were men of character, they prospered and found favor with others. We know from Isaiah 64:6 that our good deeds (righteousness) account for nothing towards salvation, but after salvation we are to follow the example of Christ (I Peter 2:21-24). We should show forth the works of righteousness and, through the power of God, get victory over the flesh.

This Proverb reminds us the choice is ours. The Lord has never been a heavy handed task master. He gives us a free will;
1) To accept Christ as our Saviour.
2) To live with the blessings of God on our life.

If you have been cleansed and made new through the blood of Christ, allow Him to help you make the right choices. After all it's His name that we carry with us
