Self Examination or Self Deception?

Self Examination or Self Deception?

In the work force of America, one of the most sought after benefits is medical insurance. The reason is simple, the care that doctors and hospitals provide comes with a hefty price tag. Because we are all apt to need medical services sooner or later, we desire financial coverage to help with the payment. It is amazing how many people, after having their problem diagnosed by testing, refuse to even consider the doctor's advice. They choose, rather, to leave the doctor's office and ignore any advice that was given because they think they know better what the problem is and what the treatment should be. If this is your mindset, then why go to the doctor in the first place?

The Bible tells that we are to examine ourselves in light of scripture to have our sin diagnosed (1Corinthians 11:28). Upon the Holy Spirit revealing to us what the problem is, we then are to go back to the Bible for treatment. The Great Physician, Christ Jesus, then commands that we humble ourselves, repent and turn from our wickedness, and by faith walk in newness of life. As a result, we are covered by the cleansing and healing blood of Jesus Christ.

But what if we decide that we know a different way, a better way, a way that we can heal ourselves? The Bible then says that if we think that we know better than scripture, we deceive ourselves (Galatians 6:3).

By the grace of God, let us realize that without Him, we are helpless in our despair and disease of sin. May God help us to spiritually examine ourselves.
