"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2

We find in this passage an astounding truth about our Saviour, Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us the reason that the God-man, Christ Jesus, suffered all the humiliation and allowed Himself to be beaten and mocked was for joy. What joy can be so great that anyone would go through such pain and suffering for people that don't even care?

You see this wasn't just an average prisoner with a debt to pay to society, He wasn't a murderer or hardened criminal, He was the Innocent Lamb of God! The reason He was being put to death by way of the cross was to pay a sin debt for you and I. Because we are sinners by nature, we do not qualify to be a sacrifice for sin, we are spotted and diseased from the presence of sin. But Jesus, the Sinless Son of God, was willing to be the sacrificial Lamb for us. He willingly went to Calvary to die, be buried, and to rise again to not only pay for our sin, but also to get victory over death and hell so we would not have to spend eternity separated from God.

The fact is, the suffering He endured was so great that He would later record for us in the Bible that He paid it all, once for all. What a blessing! Nothing else to pay. But wait a minute, so what is in store for those that believe? Life everlasting and a more abundant life while this side of eternity. You see, because of sin, the relationship between God and man had been broken. So Jesus made a way for that relationship to be restored. That is the joy that Hebrews 12:2 is talking about. The truth is, the greater the suffering, the more we can enJoy the victory.

Jesus died for your sins, suffered more than you and I will ever suffer, was rejected by His own people and went through death, hell, and the greave for you. Please trust Him and allow Him to come into you so that you can understand what joy really is.
