What is missing in your home?
" And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." Genesis 1:28
" And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth." Genesis 9:1
In these two very similar verses we find a Biblical pattern that is worth taking note of and applying to our homes.
First, we find God's blessing on both homes. In the case of Adam and Eve (Genesis 1:28), we find that God's blessing follows the appearance of those in the home. Both of the previous verses (26-27), make reference to those in the home being in the very image of God. We also find in verse twenty-seven of this same passage, that God created them male and female to live together as husband and wife in the home.
As for Noah and God blessing his family (Genesis 9:1), we find it came immediately after their obedience to God's word. In addition, we find a family standing together after a very traumatic life experience. We then notice that Noah had taken the Biblical role of Godly leadership and is leading his family in worship.
Second, we find that God told both families to "replenish the earth." Some would use this phrase to try and discredit the Bible and the facts of creation. This only shows their lack of study and understanding. Replenish does not mean to refill, it does however mean to fill; but it goes beyond that. It implies the furnishing of the earth. A house can be empty and still be a house, but when it gets filled with a personal touch and a families personal items, it becomes a home. It is the people and what they bring with them that makes it a home.
If we were to be honest with ourselves and take a scriptural view of our home, would we find something missing that God desires to be there? Is our family intact? Is the head of the house a strong spiritual leader? Do the children follow the leadership of the home? Is our marriage one of a Godly design? Are we furnishing the home with personal testimonies of faith and victory? Does our home have the resemblance of Christ? Let's determine to take a scriptural evaluation of our homes and ask God to use us for His glory. Amen.
