"I was glad when they said unto me, let us go unto the house of the Lord." Psalm 122:1

This evening there is a football game taking place that people have waited all year for. Even though no one knew what two teams would play, excitement began to build. Sponsorships were sought, security was increased, decorations and celebrations were planned, even transportation details started being discussed. Years of planning, millions of dollars spent, all for a ballgame that will be over in a few short hours.

When is the last time we got excited about meeting together with fellow believers in the presence of God. We often forget that everything this world has to offer is temporary. We let our emotions get charged up and we spend thousands of dollars to secure seats to events that provide no spiritual growth. Often the people that our children idolize are the exact opposite of the example that Christ left for us.

I want to encourage each of you to take extra precautions for your home and family. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a ballgame, a car race, or many of the other activities of this world. Just be sure that the things of this world do not replace the holy things of Christ in our life. Cursing and foul language should not replace the witness of our Saviour; drinking and drugs should not take the place of a sober and sound mind; and regular church attendance should not be replaced by some temporary form of entertainment.

If we would prepare more to serve the Lord, as well as lay aside dates and finances for His purpose, there is not doubt we would leave knowing that we had been in the presence of the Lord. May the Lord bless you and your family on this very special day, the Lord's Day.

Saved to Serve,
Pastor Darrell Roe
