On July 4th, 1776, the final wording of the Declaration of Independence was approved. Our founding fathers had been working on it for a couple of days with much consideration and prayer. This new nation was about to be born, and they greatly desired independence from all other governments and lands.
Because of the infringement of former governments on the basic freedoms of their citizens, the new nation wanted something to guarantee this cycle would not be repeated. It was very clear that no state church was to ever be established, nor was the people to be denied their public voice. People desired the freedom to assemble publicly and to protest or petition in a peaceful manner without prosecution. As a result, within a few months of this great nation's birth, the first amendment was adopted.
We owe a great debt to those whom God used to establish the United States of Amercia. Not only for our freedoms, but also for our Godly heritage. Six years after America was founded, in 1782, the Congress of the United States recommended and approved the Holy Bible for use in all schools. Oh, how far we have drifted! As our opening quote declares, without a Godly and moral compass to guide us, we have no consitution to keep us on track. May God Bless the U.S.A.
