"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace..." 2 Timothy 1:9
The idea of holiness is often misunderstood. According to the Bible, holiness in our life comes about only by trusting Christ as our Saviour. We do not achiece holiness by behaving ourselves comparatively better than someone else. We are not made holy by our church membership or our baptism. The fact of the matter is that because God is holy, and it is through the Holy Spirit that we are convicted of our need of a Saviour, we are commanded to be holy as the Son of God, Christ Jesus, left us an example of holiness.
Holiness is not based upon our relationship with our fellow man, holiness is based upon our relationship with God. 1 Peter 1:16 says: "Because it is written, Be ye holy, for I am holy." Our relationship with our fellow man will be right only when our relationship with God is right.
As more and more decisions are made in our country that try to tear apart the fabric of our homes, we need to ground ourselves on the choice of holiness. With God's help, may our lives be an example of the believer and our actions be those that are becoming of holiness.
