"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour than silver or gold." Proverbs 22:1
What is the most important thing in your life? If asked this question, what would your response be? Our immediate response, without taking time to think, would reveal the truth. I am sure there would be many honorable and noble answers, but unless the answer is "a good name", then we may want to take another look at our values.
The importance of our name carries with it the ability to change every area of our life. If we consider a good name, we will be more deligent in training our children, we will be better stewards of our finances, and we will of course be faithful to our spouses and children. It will also affect our attitude towards our boss, fellow employeees and even our government. Truth be told, our life will be much simpler and our testimony much stronger by considering the quality of our name.
Proverbs 20:11 says that "even a child is known by his doings." No matter who we are or where we go, we are always influencing someone else. In the one-hundred-twelfth psalm, we find that a good man guides his affairs with discretion and that his name will be in everlasting rememberance. It also declares that his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
With the Lord's help, let us determine to continually be considerate of our name.
